African American History Month Special Guest Speaker
Dr. Virginia Schafer, Author of "Legendary Locals of Fairfield County"
Dr. Schafer will present "Legendary African Americans of Fairfield County" highlighting many
remarkable African American individuals documented in her book, along with several newly recognized
honorees. Among those to be celebrated are:
• Dr. Tom Thompson,
• Sgt. Isaac Woodard,
• Mamie “Peanut” Johnson,
• Sheriff Herman Young,
• Veola Maples,
• and many more
Attendees are encouraged to bring photographs and be ready to share stories, memories, and
and family history connected to Fairfield County, S.C. This gathering promises to be a meaningful
celebration of community heritage and the people who helped build it.

  Peggy Jude is a professional genealogist, speaker, and educator with a passion for helping
  others uncover their family stories. She has been conducting genealogical research
  since she was fifteen, beginning with interviews of older relatives and later expanding
  her research into libraries, microfilm collections, and NARA archives. Today, she
  combines her lifelong interest in family history with a love of technology through her
  genealogy business, where she teaches others how to use genetic genealogy and technology
  to discover more about their ancestors.
